in the book of Genesis Isaac tells Jacob to go to a specific place to build a family. Isaac prays over him that God will "bless them, increase their numbers and create a community". They are to take possession of the land. The Hebrew word used for God here in Genesis 28:3 is "El Shaddai" which is a word that describes God as being personal and willing to become friends with us. God is showing His interest in us and what we do! I love that! In fact, after reading that, it helped me through a long and tough Monday this week.
Today, I read it a different way, from a different angle. Read Genesis 28:3 (NIV) with our new Richmond Campus in mind... "May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples."
What I hear so often from my Madison County friends is that they are excited to have "community" in their community! They are excited to build a church family right here in our own town of Richmond instead of driving 30 minutes to another city for church! That's why we are doing this! That is it - so we can build community with each other and then reach out into the community with God's blessing and share His Love! It's Genesis 28:3!
To say we are excited to bring the Southland family to Richmond is an understatement. We are ecstatic! Thank you for joining our family - may we increase in number and create community just as Isaac prayed.
